Hike up to the Lookout Tower

A popular spot to soak in the Himalayan splendour is this lookout tower, perched at 2164m on a ridge, although the rising vegetation can obscure the vista. It’s around an hour’s walk (4km) south from the village, and best at sunrise. If you’re not up for a dark and chilly walk, taxis and private cars (return Rs 1200) are easily arranged through any hotel or the tourist offices.

If you are looking for the perfect place to experience sunrises and sunsets while you are visiting the city, this is the perfect location. The tower gives you a perfect view of some of the mountains nearby including Mount Everest. This tower can only be accessed in the morning since the Army post will only allow you to cross then so make sure to get up early enough to experience this.

View of Nagarkot sunrise

There's nothing more glamorous than watching the sunrise from Nagarkot. Nagarkot has a viewing tower, which is very suitable for sunrise. The tower is nearly 30 minutes away from the hotel area (for ordinary walkers).

Most of the visitors who live in Nagarkot walk to the observation tower early in the morning. In the cold and dark morning, walking on a beautiful road makes people relaxed and happy. Smell the fresh air, trek up the tower and see the golden ball rising over the Himalayas.

You'll remember the Nagarkot sunrise for a long time. Bring your camera to seize the sunrise and the charming Himalayas glow with the touch of sunlight.

When the rising sun touches the top of the mountain and makes the snow shine, once nature starts painting, you will know what the canvas looks like. The soft orange of the sun and the scattered red and yellow stripes on the blue sky highlight the golden outline of the mountain. It seems that all the colors have played a role. Fortunately, in Nagarkot, you wake up almost every day to see such a breathtaking view.

The time of dawn differs from season to season. In summer, the sun rises between 5:00 and 5:40 in the morning, while in winter, it rises between 6:30 and 7:00 in the morning. As the mountain station is far away from the city, there is less dust and pollution in the air. Nevertheless, from March to September, the sky is even clearer, and there are some of the most fascinating sunrise scenes.

View of Nagarkot sunset

Nagarkot does not only boast a popular sunrise landscape, but also a sunset landscape. It offers one of the most spectacular sunsets. On a fortunate day, you may see the northern Himalayas, including Mount Everest and the Annapuna mountains. People can also see the real rural culture and lifestyle provided by the peak city. It's really pleasant to see the sun go through the valley and set outside. When the sun sets, you will witness the valley sleeping.

Similar to sunrise, Nagarkot sunset tour is also a favorite day tour for domestic and foreign tourists. From the Nagarkot viewing tower, you can see the dense forests and tree- lined rolling mountains of Shivapuri National Park. From here you can see snow mountains such as Jugal Himal, Numbur Himal, Dorje lakpa, Himalchuli (7900m), Langtang lirung, Ganesh Himal, etc. Due to its proximity to Kathmandu, visitors prefer Nagakot sunset tour to other popular sunset tour destinations.

Nagarkot is well known for its charming sunset. From the Kalamash dam, you can see the red sun setting on the mountains of Chandragiri, making the whole valley shining. The setting sun and its yellow light gently touch the water, making your chin droop. The setting sun is also charming, from Karamash mountain and the whole night scene makes you feel more connected with nature. So if you're in Nagarkot, I strongly recommend that you go to kalamash to experience the sunset and see the magic happen before you.
